I am a Reader in Llandaff Diocese and Provincial Chaplain for Faith and Light UK South (Wales and South of England).

Faith and Light is an ecumenical Christian organisation for people with learning disabilities, their families and friends. Established by Jean Vanier, it is a sister organisation to L’Arche (which operates on a residential basis). Faith and Light communities meet together on a regular basis for worship, celebration and fellowship.

My subject is “The Spirituality of Faith and Light”, a spirituality reflected in the writings of Jean Vanier and Henri Nouwen and based on the recognition of Christ in community, vulnerability and suffering.

It involves a relationship of love with the ones with whom Jesus identified himself “just as you did it to the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me” (Mt. 25.40). The encounter with Jesus in the “poor person”, the apparently needy person, is transformative, it is to be in communion with the weak, whom God has chosen “to shame the strong”.
