Lister Tonge, Dean of Newport

After curacies in Liverpool and Johannesburg, in the days of apartheid, Lister spent twelve years in the Community of the Resurrection, at Mirfield, specializing increasingly in the spirituality of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius.

Further studies followed before his appointment in 1996 as Chaplain to the Sisters of the Community of St John Baptist. He also worked concurrently, variously as Chaplain at Ripon College Cuddesdon and at two Oxford colleges, alongside a travelling ministry in Christian spirituality. He has been Dean, first of Monmouth and now of Newport, since 2012.

Praying with Ignatius of Loyola. We often think of ‘Ignatian Prayer’ as imagining ourselves into a gospel passage. But there is so much more to praying with Ignatius – come and explore!’
